HCM City will test 5G in January 2019

Up to this point, Viettel and MobiFone have officially voiced their request for 5G trial license. The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is preparing the necessary procedures for testing 5G for at least 1 enterprise in January 2019. The test site will be deployed in Ho Chi Minh City and the trial period will be conducted from January to May 2019. 5G testing may be performed on the 3.5 GHz band to avoid interference to existing VSAT stations.

Currently the Radio Frequency Department is urging operators to complete their application for 5G testing. During the test, the Frequency Department will work with operators to evaluate the 3.5 GHz band.

Viettel will participate in the test according to the roadmap set by the Ministry of Information and Communications. The experiment requires infrastructure such as fiber optic cable, broadcast stations, we have prepared early. Just like when preparing to deploy 4G networks, Viettel has the advantage of many wide-ranging fiber networks to remote areas. We hope that information on frequency will soon be available for Viettel and other network operators to prepare the appropriate design and equipment to meet the frequency that the MIC will use for 5G ”Mr. Cao Duc Thang said.
